Collection: 19th Century Jewellery
A period in which most of the creations were a reflection of the past.
We can break this period up into four phases:
Georgian jewellery 1800-1837
Early Victorian 1837-1860 – Romantic times
Mid Victorian 1860-1880 – revivalism
Late Victorian 1880-1901 – More mass-produced
Jewellery during these periods took on many different styles.
During the first few decades, classical styles were more popular. They evoked the glories of ancient Greece and Rome.
Naturalistic jewellery which was typically decorated flowers and fruit was also popular for much of this period. These designs first became fashionable during the earlier years of the 19th century, due to a widespread interest in botany and the influence of Romantic poets such as Wordsworth.
