Diamond, Pearl and Enamel Lotus Flower Stud Earrings

Diamond, Pearl and Enamel Lotus Flower Stud Earrings

A pair of 14ct gold lotus stud earrings, consisting of a pearl surrounded by five leaves set with diamonds. The vein of the leaves consists of black matt enamel as a contrast. Steltman, one of the Netherlands’s oldest jewellers, is located in The Hague. Johannes Steltman, who launched the firm in 1917, was fascinated by exotic art. In 1920 he designed lotus jewellery made of platinum, diamonds and pearls with matt black enamel in the Art Deco style, which clearly derived inspiration from China.

Around the turn of the last century, the lotus motif was revived by Steltman’s current owner and designer Reinier Brom and his father Fred Brom on the basis of the firm’s original design drawings and books. These lotus jewels could hardly be distinguished from those dating 100 years earlier. All of the lotus jewellery was crafted in the firm’s own workshop.
