Guide To Ring Sizing

We know that finding the perfect ring can be tricky, even more so when you’re not sure of your ring size.

If you’re unsure of your ring size, use our helpful tips and ring size chart to find your ideal size.

How To Measure Your Ring Size

Did you know?

  • The average ring size for a woman is L ½
  • The average ring size for a man is Q

Although having your finger sized professionally is always recommended, we know that it is not always possible to get to a jeweller and we don’t all have a ring sizer to hand. However, there is a way you can measure your ring size yourself.

  • Use a thin strip of paper or string to wrap around your finger.
  • Mark where the two ends meet comfortably.
  • Using a ruler, measure the length from the start of the paper or string to the mark you made.
  • This measurement gives you the circumference of your finger.
  • Use our handy guide below to work out your ring size.

Our Top Tips For Measuring:

  • Try to measure your finger at the end of the day if possible – this is when your fingers are at their biggest.
  • Always measure when your hands are warm.
  • Measuring cold hands will give an inaccurate measurement by up to half a size.
  • Ideally, measure your finger three times to ensure you get an accurate measurement.
  • Rings with wider bands will feel snugger. You may need to go up a size for these.

How Should My Ring Fit?

Your ring should be comfortable without being too tight, or too loose.

If your ring spins around on your finger or slides down when you point your fingers downwards, then it needs to be adjusted to a smaller size. The last thing you want is to lose it!

Similarly, if your ring fits too snugly and needs prying off then it too will need adjusting but to a larger size.

Can All Rings Be Resized?

Most rings can be resized two sizes either up or down but there are some exceptions.

These are generally:

  • Full eternity rings due to the lack of exposed metal.
  • Rose gold rings – rose gold is more fragile and can crack easily during resizing.
  • Tungsten and stainless steel are extremely hard metals, making them difficult to resize.
  • Tension rings – Tension rings have a diamond or gemstone which is held in place by pressure from the ends of the ring. This type of ring would usually need to be custom made to get a perfect size.
