Gübelin

Gubelin Jewellery

Today the Swiss firm is one of the most important names in gem testing worldwide. Gubelin’s origin is a small watch makers shop in Lucerne opened by Jakob Breitschmid.

A young apprentice named Eduard Jakob Gubelin joined the master and later married his daughter becoming a partner in the business. In 1899 it was renamed house of Gubelin.

With a boutique on the shores of lake Lucerne he opened a small gemmological lab to test the jewellery offered to clients.

In 1945 the business passed to his two sons Walter and Eduard Josef. The latter became a pioneering gemmologist.

Today Gubelin sell fine gem set jewellery and have gem labs in Lucerne, New York and Hong Kong. A trusted name accessing some of the world’s finest gems
