Vintage Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King Date Ref 5700, Made in 1964

• Comes with original paperwork from 1964 of purchase date - (the original purchase certificate from 1964 in London, Watches of Switzerland).

The Air King was created by Hans Wilsdorf to honour the World War II pilots and has been in production for over 70 years. Pilots and Rolex enthusiasts have adopted the Air King and companies like Pan-Am gave them as retirement gifts to their pilots. Interestingly the Air-King was never made with a date feature until 1958, so it took 13 years for that to happen and even then the Date models were made in far fewer numbers than their non-date counterparts making them “rare”.

This version, the reference 5700 was the first version of the Air King collection to feature a date window at 3 o’clock and was fitted with the calibre 1535 movement. This watch is set in the original 34mm steel round Oyster case with a smooth polished bezel and a twin-lock screw-down crown for basic water resistance up to 100M. The dial is an original sunburst silver colour.
