A pair of vintage, Mellerio (Mellerio Dits Melleri) 18ct yellow gold bell shaped earrings, set with 1.40 carats of blue sapphires. With post and clip fittings. Made in France, Paris, Circa 1940's.

Mellerio Dits Meller is the older jewellery house in the world which was founded in 1613, however it has history dating back to 1515. The Mellerio family emigrated from Italy in 1515, and were granted royal protection and the right to trade without restrictions by the Medici family in 1613, they quickly became a supplier of the French Royal Court and aristocracy.
Queen Marie-Antoinette herself took an interest in their craft. A lover of all things beautiful and opulent, she reportedly purchased a bracelet, from the family around 1780. They later went on to receive a number of royal warrants, supplying to Napoleon III, King Louis-Philippe I, the Court of the Netherlands and Queen Isabel II of Spain.
