17th Century Gold and Table-Cut Diamond Cross Drop Pendant, Circa 1650

A genuine 17th-century Baroque gold cross, possibly of Spanish or Portuguese origin. This exquisite pendant, in very good condition, showcases the Baroque style's dynamic movement and rich ornamentation. Crafted from at least 18 carat yellow gold, it features 23 table-cut rose diamonds set on foil, ensuring their lustre. The cross, symbolizing Christianity, embodies divinity and the world's union. Country of origin:  Although it does not carry any legible control marks we believe this to be of either Spanish or Portuguese origin.

Period: Circa 1650

Material:  at least 18 carat yellow gold but likely to be of a higher carat alloy (touchstone tested)

Technique: The rose cuts are set on foil. This is a special technique that was used to bring the lustre of the diamonds to its best quality.
