Art Nouveau Pink Plique a Jour Enamel Ruby and Diamond Ring

A stunning Art Nouveau Plique-a-Jour Enamel Ruby and Diamond Ring, Circa 1900's

The central marquise shaped ruby is flanked by beautiful gradient window-enamelled wings, suspending and surrounded by old European-cut diamonds. Mounted in 18ct yellow gold.

When held up to the light, the enamels appear as translucent windows stretched between the gold outlines of the design.

This delicate enamelling technique, described as ‘plique-à-jour’ was known to Medieval and Renaissance goldsmiths, and underwent a revival in late 19th-century jewellery, for which the French jeweller Lalique is most famous for.
