Antique Woven Gold Snake Bracelet with Diamond and Ruby

A late 19th century gold coiled snake bracelet. The engraved head is set with an oval old-cut diamond surrounded by rose-cut diamonds and cushion shaped ruby eyes. The open mouth features teeth and a tongue, the body is of woven wirework, with a steel spring core and an engraved cone tail mounted in gold. Circa 1870.

In Victorian symbolism the coiled snake symbolised eternity.
