Suffragette heart pendant, in memory of Emily Wilding Davison, on a pierced heart, reading "ROSEMARY REMEMBRANCE", circa 1913.
In the language of flowers rosemary symbolised remembrance. In Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, Ophelia said, "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember." It suggests that this piece was made in memory of Emily Wilding Davison, a suffragette, who was killed on Tattenham Corner, at the Epsom races, on the 8th June 1913. She was thought to have been trying to pin a suffragette ribbon onto the King's horse.
