A brooch by Theodor Fahrner from the Jugendstil period. The 18ct yellow gold frame has a plaited swag in relief topped with diamonds, and a central swinging natural pearl within a red enamel oval surround. Circa 1900-1910.

Stamped TF for Theodor Fahrner and stamp mark of the particular workmaster artist.

This brooch is a particularly unique piece of Theodor Fahrner, due to the fact that the brooch is made in 18ct yellow gold and that he usually used silver for his creations.

Theodor Fahrner was a German jeweller from Pforzheim. He started his jewellery signature at the age of 24 in 1883 and was very influential towards the Jugendstil and Art Nouveau period. His jewellery designs were dominantly made out of silver and enamel with faceted coloured stones such as turquoise, agate, chalcedony, rock crystal, pearl, coral and onyx. He died in 1919 and his firm was taken over by Gustav Braendle who continued the brand name Theodor Fahrner for newer creations. The jewellery pieces produced by Theodor Fahrner's company are sought after by collectors and they have exceptionally high prices, especially for the old and more sophisticated creations.
