A spectacular antique French Victorian diamond branch brooch set with 165 diamonds mounted in silver on 18ct gold.

Condition: very good condition

Country of origin: France

Period: ca. 1870

Material: Silver on top and backed with 18ct red gold. (touchstone tested)

Diamonds: Three old brilliant cut diamonds with an estimated weight of ± 0.60ct. (colour and clarity: F/I, si/i).
28 old brilliant cut diamonds with an estimated weight of ± 1.00ct. (colour and clarity: G/K, si/i).
134 rose cut diamonds and senailles. A senaille is a simplified rose cut diamond, a small diamond chip with perhaps a few polished facets.

Total diamond count: 165 pcs.

Total diamond weight: (without the 134 rose cuts) approx. 1.60ct.

Hallmarks: The French control marks representing an eagle's head next to a wild boars head. Both were in use in France from about 1838 This hallmark was used for jewels that were made both in gold and in silver.
