Elegant Victorian banded agate pendant set within an ornate 15ct gold mount and suspended from a fine 9ct gold chain.
The striking natural agate panel displays beautiful natural banding in rich chocolate brown, caramel and smoky blue-grey tones, with delicate white striations creating a wonderfully atmospheric layered effect. The stone is framed by an intricately worked 15ct gold tricolour border decorated with fine floral and foliate engraving, adding warmth and refinement to the piece.
Scottish agate jewellery became immensely fashionable during the Victorian period following Queen Victoria’s admiration for hardstone jewellery, and pieces displaying unusual colour combinations such as these soft blue and brown tones are especially sought after today.
