18th Century Carved Coral Cameo Brooch of Bacchante
A gold brooch with a deeply carved coral cameo of a Bacchante, a follower of Bacchus, before a shell background. This is set in a frame of carved coral knots connected by little ribbons of rose-cut diamond, with carved coral flowers in between, and light blue enamel woven around it.
Typically Sicilian from Trapani, famed for its coral carving since the Middle Ages, 18th century.
This cameo comes from celebrity jeweler, Fred Leighton’s private collection.
