Edward Helenius was a competent workmaster who worked for the famed House of Fabergé in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Helenius, who was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1872, started his apprenticeship at Fabergé in St. Petersburg at the age of 18 and soon climbed through the ranks to become one of the company’s most talented artisans.
He excelled in cutting hardstones and crafting exquisite enamelwork, and his creations were much sought after by Fabergé’s aristocratic clientele, who included members of the Russian royal family and other European nobles. Helenius continued with Fabergé until the company’s collapse in 1918, and his stunning works are still praised and treasured by art aficionados all over the globe.
