Antique Victorian Opal and Diamond Crescent Brooch Circa 1890

Antique Victorian Opal and Diamond Crescent Brooch Circa 1890

A fabulous Victorian opal and diamond crescent brooch set with 9 precious opals accentuated with old cut diamonds in gold, typically with the gemstones set in silver. The opals have a great fire, predominantly blue/green/pink in colour, relating more to the black opal range than pale opal. The gems graduate in size from approx. 6mm x 4mm at the centre down to 3mm x 2mm at each end. Between each opal is pairs of Old Mine cut diamonds set one above the other before terminating with a single diamond at each end. A pierced gallery completes the design. A curved pin with hinged fastening to a C scroll catch.
