Antique Victorian Swiss Enamel Gold Brooch
An antique, Swiss enamel brooch, showing a mountain scene, with a woman, in regional peasant dress, leaning on a goat and man blowing a horn, with goats and a chalet in the background, on hand painted enamelled plaque, mounted in gold. Circa 1840. Typically Swiss enamels feature peasants in regional dress of the Swiss cantons, or states. They were often made as tourist pieces. Their popularity declined with the invention of photography.
