Antique Georgian Berlin Iron Work Bracelet

A rare 19th century Berlin iron work bracelet with a central knight cameo panel masterfully crafted around 1820.

Iron work jewellery are synonymous displays of patriotism and sacrifice, believed to have begun in 1804 in the Berlin Royal Factory, the Prussian state urged wealthy families to donate their costly jewellery to the war effort and the struggle against Napoleon. In exchange for highly ornate, gem set pieces of jewellery wealthy individuals handed over their heirlooms for iron work pieces such as this one in an effort to help fund the state for much need war provisions.

  • Condition: Very good commensurate with age and use. The central panel shows some age related tarnishing which is expected of a piece over 200 years old. The links remain in good condition, all are present. The clasp opens and closes securely.
