Augis French Ruby, Diamond and 18ct Gold Love Charm Pendant
Augis French Plus Hier Ruby, Diamond and 18ct Gold Love Charm Pendant
A French 18ct yellow gold, diamond and ruby love charm pendant with a rebus spelling out “Plus qu’hier, moins que demain” (“More than yesterday, less than tomorrow”) – a line taken from the love poem written by Rosemonde Gerard to her husband (the author of Cyrano) in 1889.
The word “plus” is symbolised by a plus sign set with five single cut white diamonds, and the word “moins” by a minus sign set with three rectangular cut synthetic rubies.
- Diamonds: 0.10 carat total
- Rubies: 0.09 carat total
This is an original example of the tokens created by Alphonse Augis in 1907 in response to the poem, signed A.A. with a “crepe de chine” textured background and floral and laurel wreath border to indicate the triumph of love. The patent mark “DEPOSE” to the reverse along with the A.A. signature indicates that this is an early example of these love tokens.
Signed A.A, stamped with the eagles head for 18ct gold and French manufacture and Augis’ makers mark, monogrammed to the reverse.
