Antique Victorian Old Cut Diamond Crescent Brooch, 2.00 carat total
A Mid 19th century Victorian diamond crescent brooch, set with old mine-cut diamonds, graduating in size. With a plain inner curve and cut down set outer curve, with gold gallery work below, mounted in silver-upon-gold, subsequently rhodium plated. Secured with a pin and roller catch fitting. Circa 1860.
In Victorian symbolism the crescent or new moon represented a new relationship, hopeful it will “wax” into matrimony.
