Antique Victorian Emerald and Diamond Gold Snake Bracelet
The diamond pavé set head has a large emerald to the centre, the body is comprised of articulated 18ct yellow gold sections. This is a striking bracelet probably English ,and dating from about 1900. It is a good representation of a snake head bangle, showing the emerald eyes and the teeth in delicate gold work.
The bracelet opens underneath ,with a concealed clasp, and it could be shortened, for a smaller wrist if necessary, it articulates beautifully.
Snakes are widely represented in jewellery throughout the ages. The Romans had many fine examples of snake jewellery, as did the Egyptians. They were symbols of many things to many civilizations, from everlasting love, to regeneration and desire. The Greeks looked towards the serpent as a symbol of wisdom.
