A remarkable and finely crafted Byzantine 22 carat gold ring featuring a raised circular bezel with an intaglio engraving of a bird and a lizard or salamandercreatures rich in early Christian symbolism. The central boss is set atop stepped plinths, adorned with zig-zag and Greek key motifs, all inlaid with deep black niello enamel.The circular bezel is 22 carat yellow gold and shank is in 15 carat yellow gold.
