Chanel Gabriel Bonheur ‘Coco’ Chanel, French fashion icon who from lowly beginnings learnt to sew and opened her first boutique in Deauville in 1913, she went on to produce ground breaking couture collections  that were to delight Parisians and then the world of fashion. Together with her employee Duke Fulco di Vedura she created a Maltese cross pendant set with semi precious stones. The cross became available commercially in 1930 and has been in production in various forms ever since. Her single collection of fine jewellery she named ‘ Bijoux de Diamntes’, but her personal preference was to wear fine and costume jewellery together.
