Antique Victorian 1.40 Carat Diamond Sunburst Star Brooch Pendant, Circa 1890

Antique Victorian 1.40 Carat Diamond Sunburst Star Brooch Pendant, Circa 1890

A fabulous late Victorian 1.40 carat diamond sunburst star brooch set in silver on 18ct yellow gold. A less common and more exotic design, this antique star brooch is designed with rose cut diamond set curved, sunburst rays emanating from a central cluster. The design is reminiscent of the Star of India emblem which was first used in 1880.

The total approximate carat weight is 1.40ct with the centre stone of 0.20ct. The silver setting enhances the brightness and sparkle of the diamonds which are a mix of Old Mine Cut and Rose Cut diamonds which was typical of star brooch design during the late Victorian period as Rose Cuts made a short revival within smaller sized brooches like this one.

The brooch maintains its original fully removable brooch fitting and allows for the brooch to be used as a pendant, making it a very versatile piece. There is very little wear overall and all stones are securely set and original to the piece.
